Millennium Seed Bank Project, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Located at RBG Kew's "country" base outside London at Wakehurst Place in West Sussex, the Project's aim to store seeds representing ten per cent of the world's flora over the next ten years, and seeds representing all members of the British flora. These include orchids, with which the Project is becoming increasingly involved.

It is currently involved in a number of collaborative projects around the world, most notably from an orchid perspective with Kings Park and Botanical Garden in Perth, Western Australia, and the National Museums of Kenya, East African Herbarium.

Hugh Pritchard, Head of Research, is a member of the Ex Situ Group (see profile).

Orchid Seedbank Project

The Orchid Seedbank Project, founded by Aaron Hicks in 1996 in Arizona, USA, works towards the conservation of orchid species by seed.  It stores and sells the seeds of hundreds of orchid species, along with the products, components, and information required to germinate and grow them.  It also sells protocorms, seedlings, and copies of its book, "Asymbiotic Technique of Orchid Seed Germination".  Proceeds from sales go to further research and education in orchid conservation, as well as improvements in short- and long-term orchid seed storage.

Aaron is a member of the Ex Situ Group (see profile).
