Document Formats, Viewing and Downloading |
The format in which documents are available, and their size, is specified in each case. Most are available in either TXT format (as simple text) or HTML format (as web pages, where the size quoted includes any illustrations and other graphics). |
Some documents are available only in "portable document format" (PDF), for which Adobe's 'Acrobat Reader ' software is required. If you do not already have Acrobat Reader, you can download a free copy of the latest version from Adobe's web site. Just click on their logo on the right. |
All HTML and PDF documents are also available as compressed ZIP files. These are for downloading only; they cannot be read on-line. A compressed file is smaller - HTML by 30%-80%, PDF by up to c.30% - so it downloads faster, but requires suitable software to decompress it before the document can be read. WinZip Computing's ' WinZip ' is the most widely used. You can download an evaluation copy of the latest version from WinZip's web site; just click on their icon on the right. |
To read a document on-line, simply right-click its button and it will open in a new window. Remember that PDF documents are quite large, so please give them time to load. Also remember that ZIP files cannot be read on-line. |
